Flow state

I think one of the key many reasons why I love painting is that it easily puts me in a flow state.

"The mind’s usual chatter begins to fade away, placing us in a non-distracted zone. The feelings that would consume you under normal circumstances (inhibition, hunger, fatigue, or aches and pains) melt away, and all that matters is your dedication to your craft. If the activity at hand happens to be something we enjoy and we’re good at, we achieve a flow mental state — and it can leave us feeling ecstatic, motivated and fulfilled.” - Source

It doesn’t always happen but I love it when it does because it just makes me feel peaceful and at ease.

It was last month end I was starting to feel stress with work. So I deliberately chose to start this detailed painting knowing that it will keep my mind off work and thus the stress off me. I set an alarm for myself to get back to work and was able to concentrate and work better after. I managed to finish all my work on time. But if I didn’t, would I regret taking the time off to paint? There’s only one right answer which is no, because it took the stress off me. We all know what stress does to our body, our temple, our precious home. Work is not worth it.

This is a very challenging piece for me not only because it is very detailed and will probably take me lots of layers to achieve the results I want. Nonetheless, I am enjoying every part of it.
